Alloy Oxidation and Porcelain Fused to Alloy Interaction in Noble Alloy Systems

چکیده
The oxidation and porcelain fusion characteristics of noble alloys containing a variety of minor oxidizable elements, including Cu, Sn, In, Ga, Mn, and Fe were investigated. Four porcelain alloys systems: a Pd-base alloy (Naturelle}, two Pd-Ag-based alloys (Jelstar and Acclaim}, and a high Au-alloy (SMG-3) were examined by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy after being heat treated and after being fused with porcelain. Internal oxidation of minor alloying elements occurred within several micrometers from the surface in all four alloys. Surface nodules as detected by other investigators for a Pd-Ag alloy were also detected in this study. Evidence for occ111Tt2lce of such nodules in the high Au-content alloy were also noted. Naturelle, a high Ga and Cu containing alloy, was also characterized by the presence of a 0"203 010 layer beneath Pd-Cu nodules and at grain boundaries. A surface oxide layer, as thin as 100 nm, of F~~ -sno2 was observed in the high Au-alloy. The morphologies for alloy /porcelain interfaces were similar. The presence of minor alloying elements was observed within a distance of several micrometers in the porcelain from the alloy/porcelain interface. These results suggest a predominantly mechanical bond with Pd-Ag base alloys (Jelstar and Acclaim) while a significant contribution by a chemical bond in Pd-base (Naturelle) and high Au-

Statement of Problem: In order to eliminate the esthetic problem of metal collar in porcelain fused to metal crowns various techniques, such as shoulder porcelain, have been suggested. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of repeated porcelain firing cycles on the marginal integrity of shoulder in porcelain fused to metal crowns, made of two kinds of alloys: noble and b...

متن کاملA Comparison between Shear Bond Strength of VMK Master Porcelain with Three Base-metal Alloys (Ni-cr-T3, VeraBond, Super Cast) and One Noble Alloy (X-33) in Metal-ceramic Restorations
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM The increase in the use of metal-ceramic restorations and a high prevalence of porcelain chipping entails introducing an alloy which is more compatible with porcelain and causes a stronger bond between the two. This study is to compare shear bond strength of three base-metal alloys and one noble alloy with the commonly used VMK Master Porcelain. MATERIALS AND METHOD Three...
متن کاملComparison of bond strength of a pressed ceramic fused to metal versus feldspathic porcelain fused to metal.
PURPOSE To compare the debonding/crack initiation strength (D/CIS) of a low-fusing pressable leucite-based glass ceramic (PC) fused to metal to a feldspathic porcelain (FP) fused to metal. MATERIALS & METHODS As per ISO 9693:1999, 40 rectangular metal specimens (25.0 mm x 0.5 mm x 3.0 mm) were prepared. Twenty of the specimens were cast in a base metal nickel-chromium alloy (BA), and 20 were ...
متن کاملA comparative study on the bond strength of porcelain to the millingable Pd-Ag alloy
PURPOSE The porcelain fused to gold has been widely used as a restoration both with the natural esthetics of the porcelain and durability and marginal fit of metal casting. However, recently, due to the continuous rise in the price of gold, an interest towards materials to replace gold alloy is getting higher. This study compared the bond strength of porcelain to millingable palladium-silver (P...
